Race Description

Set deep in the Balcones Canyon Lands area of the Texas Hill Country, get ready to race one of the most fun and challenging courses yet on the Xterra Point Series. The race will start among the Cypress trees of Lake Austin and continue along the ridges and bluffs that over-look Emma Long City Park. The rocky, undulating and thickly wooded terrain will challenge the most experienced racers and, upon completion, will be the source of pride and confidence for newbies as well! And, as the “Live Music Capital of the World”, we will make it a party too with music, pizza, beer, and unique competitions and activities.
Swim Course Description - 1000M
A new swim course design for 09 will reveal the XTERRA standard two loop swim in the chilly, wetsuit legal waters of Lake Austin. It’s really the Colorado River so there might actually be a little current to contend with, but I’m guessing you won’t notice a thing. However, you and your cardiovascular system will notice the beach run that divides the two swim loops though.
Bike Course Description – 16 Miles
Get ready for this one! Not like any course you’ve ever ridden, the mountain bike trails here at Emma Long Park are…umm….tricky. Sure you start off with some “relatively tame” single track and jeep roads. But when you “drop into” the Turkey Creek trail, it’s on! The thickly wooded Balcones Canyon Lands area provides tons of creek beds, hills, drops, baby-heads, roots, logs, and ledges so it’s safe to say that you won’t be bored. Don’t worry, our team will marked the course to warn you of potential dismount sections so even beginners will have fun at our race. Don’t forget about our second annual crowning of Mr. and Mrs. Clean. This unique competition is a hoot! Everyone will be awarded points based on how much you can “clean” (not put your foot down) within four specially marked sections of the course.
Run Course Description - 5 miles
You will start off along the shady bank of the lake under the Cypress trees so you can get your running legs under you. But then, all heck breaks loose with a scramble up the cliff! From there, a tight single track trail weaves back and forth with sweet views of the lake. This isn't the time for sight seeing really, but it's hard not to. The flat and fast sections will let you show your speed, but soon you’ll be in the tight stuff again. Oh yeah, you have to come down the cliff too. Once you’ve finished, cool down in the lake and join us for a NXNW beer (awesome local tradition) and some pizza.
